Octothorpe is a rebellion against sterile musicianship, boring melodies, stale harmonies, monotonous rhythm, overblown production values, and other things that have become an intrinsic part of “modern” music, with the goal to return music to its primitive state as an unpretentious and totally inclusive form of storytelling.
Musical Director Spud is the ringleader, and responsible for keeping this band of misfits together. Most of the time, he writes the music and weighs in on bass, but can also be found at the keyboards (especially on the early songs), digital horn, accordion, flute, and most recently, guitar.
Spud's alter ego is architect Ray C. Freeman III. One of his most recent recent projects is his own house
Social Director Mad Dog (the artist formerly known as 'Bro') is the golden voice of the Mighty Octothorpe. He belts them out like nobody's business. When not at the microphone, he can be found at the bar, talking up the bartender and the rest of the crowd.
Mad Dog's alter ego is cartoonist John X. Ambrosavage. You can find his latest cartoons here
Keyboard player Crash joined the band for our first real live performance in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, because we were a four-keyboard band back then, and Spud only has two hands. She's been with us ever since.
She used to be called "Bud", but events dictated a change. Ask her about it.
Mike Lach plays guitar without a band nickname. Well, he has several, he just won't let us post any of them here. He had better hurry up and come up with one, or we are going to start using one of those.
You can find some of Mike's own music here
Mister Ferocious is our twenty-third drummer. We had to kill all the rest. Well, except for fluffy, who moved to San Francisco before we had the chance. Anyway, it is more likely that Mister Ferocious will kill us. We must be getting soft.
This is our lyricist, Stubs. It was all his idea, so if you want someone to blame, now you know. He is the one that turned us on to SongFight!, and wanted to record a song to submit. He wrote "Been (Bean) To China", and the rest is history.
We have no idea what most of his lyrics are about, so don't ask us.
